Minutes
 

A regular meeting of the Stowe Historic Preservation Commission (SHPC) was held on Monday, August 13, 2008 in the Akeley Memorial Building starting at approximately 5:30 pm.

Project 3818, 18 Main Street, Applicant: Ampersand Properties LLC. Enclose Space Under Existing Office On The MainBuilding

Ken Biedermann presented plans prepared by Colin Lindberg last revised 8/4/08 to enclose an area underneath a second-floor office. Mr. Biedermann explained that the office extension was structurally unsound and that the renovations would correct this problem. A door will be added to access the new area and trim and siding will match the existing trim and siding.

Ms. Innamorati moved to recommend approval as submitted and to classify the project as a minor modification. The motion was approved 6-0.

 

Project 3814, 1500 Elmore Mountain Rd, Applicant: Stephen & Mary Jean Beimdiek. Convert Existing Screen Porch Into Heated Living Space

Don Blake presented plans to enclose a screen porch in the rear of an historic building. The windows will be Pella Architect Series (Simulated Divided Light) or equivalent.

Ms. Baraw moved to recommend approval as submitted and to classify the project as a minor modification. The motion was approved 6-0.

 

Project 3792, 128 Main Street, Applicant: Sam Scofield. Minor revisions to previously approved façade.

Sam Scofield presented prepared by him last revised 7/26/08 revising:

§         The front door design

§         Modifying second-floor windows on the east elevation with two-over-two and awning style Pella Architect Series (Simulated Divided Light) or equivalent.

§         Replacing a window with a door on the east elevation

Mr. Carey moved to recommend approval as submitted and to classify the project as a minor modification. The motion was approved 5-0 (with Mr. Scofield abstaining).

 

Project 3819, 311 Mountain Road, Applicant: Sam Scofield. Demolish Existing Restaurant/Structure - Replace With New 75 Seat Restaurant And 3 Apartments.

Sam Scofield presented plans prepared by him dated 8/13/08 to construct new building at 311 Mountain Road. The existing building which is within the SHOD, but not listed as a contributing building has been altered from it's original design according to Mr. Scofield. The new building was found to be similar in design to the original building design and appropriate for the area. The windows will be Pella Architect Series (Simulated Divided Light) or equivalent.

Mr. Carey moved to recommend approval of demolition and approval on the new building as submitted. The motion was approved 4-0 (with Mr. Scofield abstaining and Ms. Innamorati voting no).

Other Items

Ms. Baraw questioned why door modifications completed at the Trapps Tea House did not have design review. Mr. Baker said he would investigate the matter. Ms. Innamorati questioned why the new windows in the old Moscow Store had snap-in grills. Mr. Baker said he would investigate the matter. Mr. Baker asked for a review of the revised door design at the new Papa's Soup and Deli store. After discussion the Commission decided to recommend approval as modified. The Commission discussed the desire to review the proposed Public Safety Building design. Mr. Baker said that he understood that Mr. Stafford was going to request an informal design review at a later date.

Approval of Minutes

The minutes of 7/21/08 were approved as submitted.

 

The meeting adjourned at approximately 6:55 p.m.
