
Stowe Historic Preservation Commission TOWN OF STOWE May 14, 2008 Minutes A regularly scheduled meeting of the Stowe Historic Preservation Commission (SHPC) was held on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 in the Akeley Memorial Building starting at approximately 5:15 p.m. Members Presents: Sam Scofield Gordon Dixon Jean Innamorati Tim Meehan, Acting Chair Chris Carey Staff Present: Richard Baker, Zoning Director Project 3720, 128 Main Street, Various Façade Changes. Applicant: ZOMAX LLC (Paul Biron) (Preliminary Review Conducted on 4/23/08) Sam Scofield presented elevations and plan. The Commission based its findings on a review of proposed elevations prepared by Sam Scofield dated 5/2/08 and a site plan prepared by Sam Scofield dated 5/14/08. The project involves: - Replacing windows in the original brick building (including the bay windows) with simulated divided light windows
- Replacing various other windows on the side and rear elevations as shown on the drawings
- Removing an entry area on the north elevation and replacing it with a short bulk-head style cover to house the building sprinkler system
- Adding a porch and handicap lift on the west side
- Adding a new vestibule entry in the rear/south side
- Adding a dormer and four skylights to the south roof of the brick building
Overall the Commission found that the changes conformed to the design guidelines. The meeting was reconvened to the site in order to determine the visibility of the proposed skylights. Mr.Carey moved to recommend approval with a conditions that shutters which are shown shall be made of wood. The motion was approved 4-0 with Mr. Scofield recusing himself. Advisory Review, 137 Main Street, Rear Addition. Applicant: Community Church Sam Scofield presented two alterative plans for a rear addition to the Community Church. It was noted that churches are exempt from design review under 24 V.S.A. § 4413 and that this is a request for an advisory design review only. Commission members had differing opinions about which alternative was a better design. Sam will return at a later date with revised plans. Approval of Minutes The minutes of 4/23/08 were not acted upon due to a lack of a quorum of members present for the 4/23 meeting. Stowe Historic Preservation Commission TOWN OF STOWE May 28, 2008 Minutes A regularly scheduled meeting of the Stowe Historic Preservation Commission (SHPC) was held on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 in the Akeley Memorial Building starting at approximately 5:15 p.m. Members Presents: Sam Scofield, Chair Gordon Dixon Tim Meehan Chris Carey Staff Present: Richard Baker, Zoning Director Project 3743, 1940 Mountain Rd, Demolition of Historic Building. Applicant: Zeilschuss LLC Mila Lonetto presented the request to demolish the single-family dwelling and the detached garage. The Commission based its findings on a review of photographs and the historic site survey information. The historic site survey indicates that the house is an example of a ranch style prevalent in the 1950's. The SHPC found that the first criterion for demolition was satisfied. The Commission found that the buildings had no historic significance and do not make a positive contribution to the district's landscape that is comprised of a mix of commercial buildings of various styles and time periods. Mr. Meehan moved to recommend approval as submitted. The motion was approved 4-0. Advisory Review, 137 Main Street, Rear Addition.
