As overseers of local governance, the Selectboard is charged with ensuring a safe, healthy and stable environment for the entire Stowe community.  The Town Manager's Office serves as headquarters for all municipal functions.  Leadership and guidance is provided to all operations as the Town delivers a full range of public services.

The Town Manager is responsible for government administration and oversees operations of the highway, police, water and sewer departments.

Stowe's Selectboard meets the 2nd & 4th Monday of each month at 5 pm in the Akeley Memorial Building Banquet Room.

Planning Commission

The Stowe Planning Commission consists of seven members appointed by the Selectboard and is responsible for both long range planning functions and short range development regulation.  Long range planning functions include periodic update of the Town Plan, drafting land use and development regulations to implement that plan, and offering policy recommendations on matters related to Stowe's growth and development.  The Commission is provided staff support from the Stowe Planning Office by Planning Director Tom Jackman and Zoning Assistant Andrea Adams-McKnight.

The Commission meets the 1st and 3rd Monday of  each month at 5:30 pm in the Akeley Memorial Building Banquet Room.

Development Review Board

The Development Review Board is a quasi-judicial body charged with administering key provisions of the Town's zoning bylaws and subdivision regulations.  The Board is responsible for regulating most commercial development through the administration and interpretation of conditional use standards and reviewing landowner requests for variance from specific development standards.  Regulatory functions include review of construction in the Ridgeline and Hillside Overlay District and land subdivision through the administration of Stowe's subdivision regulations.  The Board also reviews appeals of Zoning Administrator decisions.

Zoning Administrator Rich Baker, Zoning Assistant Adrea Adams-McKnight and Barbara Allaire provide staff support.

The Board meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at 5 pm in the Akeley Memorial Building Banquet Room.

Conservation Commission

The responsibilities of the Stowe Conservation Commission are to develop and maintain an inventory of the Town's natural resources , social resources and other lands which have historic, educational, cultural, scientific, architectural or archeologial values in which the public has an interest and to assist in planning for their conservation for the continuing benefit of the townspeople. 

Staff support is provided by the Planning Director.

The Conservation Commission meets every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at 6 pm in the Akeley Memorial Building Banquet Room.

Library Board of Trustees

The Library Board of Trustees, consisting of seven members appointed by the Town Selectboard, is responsible for assessing library needs for the community,
developing a plan of service, and evaluating library performance.  The Board is the governing body of the library, carrying full responsibility for general policy-making and for securing funds to implement these policies. 

Staff support is provided by the Library Director, Stephanie Chase.

The Board meets on the first Friday of the month at 8:30 a.m. in the library’s Community Meeting Room.

Cemetery Commission

The Cemetery Commission oversees the Town's seven cemeteries and is responsible for administrating cemetery regulations, maintaining records and planning for future needs.

Barbara Allaire provides secretarial support.

The Commission meets the 1st Tuesday of each month at 8 am in the Akeley Memorial Building Banquet Room.

Recreation Commission

The Recreation Commission recommends facility development and use of the Town's recreational facilities including the Jackson Arena, Village and Moscow ball fields, Recreation Path and Quiet Path, David Gale Center and Mayo Fields.

The Rec Commission meets the 1st Monday of each month.

Historic Preservation

Established in June of 2000, the Historic Preservation Commission is responsible for the creation and maintenance of a system for the survey and inventory of historic properties within the town.  The Commission is also charged with the task of recommending the nomination of properties to the National Register of Historic Places.  It also serves as the Design Review Board for applications for alterations to historic buildings and for development within the Stowe Historic Overlay District.

Staff support is provided by the Zoning Director.  Minutes of meetings are provided by Rick Baker. 

The Commission meets every 2nd and 4th Wednesday at 5:30 pm in the Akeley Memorial Building Banquet Room.

Board of Listers

Listers set the policies, direct and review work of the Town Appraiser Tom Vickery.  In conjunction, with the Town Appraiser, the Board is responsible for the Town's Grand List of approximately 3200 parcels. The Board is also present for grievance hearings.

Auditors

Local auditors review the accounts of local officials and report the findings directly to the taxpayers for review in the Annual Report of the Auditors.  It is the auditor's function to present an easy-to-understand picture of the Town's finances to the people of the Town through publication of the Town Report.
